Studying For Final Exams...

Well, I've been studying for final exams the past two weeks, and I've been feeling sick all week. Not fun. Needless to say, I've been loading up on the chicken soup.

As a result, it's rather hard to focus on the fun stuff....like roleplaying games, Rune, women, or hanging with friends. I am really looking forward to Winter Break...

I Played Rune Again!

I played Rune again for the first time in months, and it was fun! Of course, I completely sucked, and my Jedi-like reflexes were rusted to all Hell, but the passion was still there. I really gotta start playing again... :)

So What Have I Been Doing Lately?

That's the real question, right? What have I been up to lately? Aside from adding a couple roleplaying game links, I haven't been updating the site for the past several weeks. There have been no topics about rpgs, discussions about Rune, and not even any goofy animal videos. So you might wonder what's been going on. The answer is, I've been working super-hard at school, and I guess I've just been too burned out lately to update the blog. Yeah, I know. That's a weak excuse. :)

I'll fix that soon, guys. In any case, the myriad number of links here should keep you all occupied for a while, and I will soon return to Rune, provided there's anyone left who plays... ;)

Back To School

Well, hey! It seems that I've gone back to school after being away for a number of years, and it's quite a trip. I haven't updated the blog for a couple weeks, because of how crazy things have been lately. Once things quiet down a bit (which should be soon), I can get back to Rune, roleplaying games, and other such fappery. I'm still here, so nobody panic. Anyway, back to your regularly scheduled program...

Welcome to GreenMix, a map used by The Unique Immortal Units as part of their map rotation. So is it worth playing? Well, the jury is still out on that. Please take note that I am rusty as Hell at Rune, and haven't played regularly for between a year-and-a-half to two years due to computer problems. I'm relearning how to play, so I do not yet have the "juice", so to speak. So what about GreenMix?

Well, it's GREEN. Like....very, very green. Distractingly green. The map has this eerie green glow that hurts my eyes a bit, and makes it just a tad difficult to see smaller details. The impairment is minor, but it is an impairment for me, and it manages to make gameplay into a slightly irritating experience. The upper levels of this map are not green, so you can get a break from it if you wish, which is nice. My feelings are that if the glowing had been more subtle, and less pervasive, it would have provided a superior aesthetic experience. Take from that what you will...

I will say that the layout is pretty good though, and there are lots of "hidey-holes" for you to lay low if you need them. I'll definitely need to check out the map again, because I can't remember if all the weapons are present or not. If this map has a full roster of players again, then I will take this map on a second run in order to more carefully explore it. It's good enough that it merits it, despite its flaws.

So how would I grade this map based upon my first impression?

Final Grade: C+

Updating Some More? Hell, Yes.

I'm still updating the site. I've added new links to Rune clans and whatnot, and have also added new links to blogs for roleplaying games from time to time. So to be continued...

I Played Rune Tonight...

I played Rune tonight, and it was good. I actually enjoyed this game for the first time in a year-and-a-half. In all this time, my computer simply would not run the game, but it's running very smoothly now.

My brother is visiting from the Seattle area to help out with some family affairs, and he graciously helped me to reinstall Rune onto this machine. Everything works like a charm now. The only problem is that most of the active Rune servers seem to be 1.01 servers, so I guess I'll have to get 1.01 installed on my computer as well, so that I can play both 1.01 and 1.08....

So What Happened?

I don't particularly want to discuss it on this blog, but it should be noted that my beloved mother passed away in her sleep less than two weeks ago, and I'm just feeling really raw and terrible about it. What can I say? I miss my mom. :(

Anyway, I'm now forced to make some real life-altering decisions that I hoped to postpone for a few more years. Well, no such luck. Fortunately, I have a great support network of friends and family, and that makes all the difference in the world. Please take note that if I'm acting weird towards anyone, I apologize in advance. I figured that an explanation was in order, and this is it. I may write down my feelings about this tragedy at some point, but I don't really feel that this blog is the place for it. From now on, my other posts will be focused on issues more germane to the site, so stay tuned...

Family Crisis...

Rune Videos? Hell, Yeah.

So now I've added a new section to the blog. There's a list of links on the right side of the page called, "Rune Videos". Scroll down a bit, and you'll see it. Why did I add it? I don't know, really. People wanted to share their Rune videos on youtube, so I figured I'd provide a link to them. This list of links will grow over time, and since I'm in no particular rush to complete it in a single night, I'll just do this at my own leisurely pace. More to come soon...

Rune: Pure Adrenaline

Here's an old video of Barbarian Cultist from Rune wreaking bloody havoc, and making people cry. This video makes me nostalgic, and reminds me why I was so completely addicted to this game for years. Rune is pure adrenaline, baby...pure adrenaline.

Here is the summary of Thieves Guild on Mod DB:

"Thieves Guild is a singleplayer mod, which was loosely inspired by Thief: The Dark Project, a game that was originally developed by Looking Glass Studios. In order to play this mod you will need to have Rune, which is another great game that was developed by Human Head Studios.

The Story: The player will take on the role of a thief working for the local thieves guild in a dark and corrupt city during an obscure mystic age. The player will be given a series of dangerous nocturnal missions to complete and if successful you will gain extra items and wealth. But in order to be successful you will need to learn how to creep silently down shadowy alleyways, scale guarded buildings, overcome treacherous traps, pick open locks and all the while you will need to avoid capture from the city guards and night patrols.

Background: This series was designed as a stealthy thief adventure and not as a hack and slash game. The player should try to employ stealth strategy, and other thieving skills such as, avoidance, hiding in shadows, stealing, climbing and jumping before resorting to unsheathing your dagger.

What's new: There are new monsters, weapons, magic items, mechanical and non-mechanical devices, scripting, textures, and music. There are also treasure chests with locks and keys, flags that blow in the wind, lots of early Victorian architecture and atmosphere with new special effects like "shadow zones" and "thief sense". In addition there are many other surprises locked away and just waiting to be discovered.This mod is currently comprised of ten individual maps but that number might and probably will increase by the time it’s ready for release. I Picked Up A Bird Today

Well, I picked up a bird today. He was a cute little guy. Basically, he was just sitting there on the sidewalk. I get the impression somehow that he was pretty young. When I scooped him up, he clutched my fingers with his talons, and would not let go. I must have been there with him for fifteen minutes, before I could remove him from my hand. And when I finally did persuade him to release me, he flapped his wings, and landed on my shoulder. Little bastard pooped on my hand. I will say, however, that it was a relief to see that he could still fly, and I hope that he's ok...
